Your First Time in Caye Caulker

The laid-back guide to everything you’ll want to do, eat, and experience — with The Bohemian as your base

Welcome to Caye Caulker — a place where time slows down, shoes come off, and nobody’s in a rush. Whether you’re coming for the weekend or staying a while, this guide is for you.

We’ve pulled together everything you need to know about the island: how to get around, what to pack, what to do (and not do), and where to eat — based on what we actually recommend to our guests at The Bohemian.

Getting Here

Most people arrive via:

  • Water Taxi – Ferries run from Belize City, San Pedro, and Chetumal (Mexico).

  • Domestic Flight – Tropic Air and Maya Island Air fly directly to the island from Belize City.

Staying with us? We offer complimentary pick-up and drop-off from both the Water Taxi terminal and the airport in Caye Caulker — just let us know your arrival details, and we’ll handle the rest. We can also arrange your ferry tickets, airport transfer, and other arrival details so you can step straight into island time.

What to Pack

You won’t need much. The vibe is barefoot and breezy.
Here's what we always tell our guests to bring:

  • Light, breathable clothes

  • Swimwear (and then one more set)

  • Sandals or flip-flops

  • Bug spray + reef-safe sunscreen

  • A reusable water bottle

  • A hat, sunglasses, and something long-sleeved for sun protection

  • A beach bag or dry bag

  • Snorkeling gear (optional — tours provide it, but some guests prefer their own)

Getting Around

  • No cars on the island — just golf carts, bikes, and your own two feet.

We offer complimentary bikes to all guests.

  • If you’d like to rent a golf cart, we can help arrange it with nearby providers.

Staying at The Bohemian

We built The Bohemian to be a calm, stylish home base — close enough to walk to everything, far enough to unwind.

You’ll find:

  • Compact, carefully designed villas with full bathrooms and kitchenettes

  • Private decks with cozy seating and filtered sea views

  • Overwater decks with puffy lounge chairs, perfect for sunrises or slow evenings

  • A shaded pool area and elevated Palapa lounge for reading, relaxing, or sunset hangs

  • A small wine cellar and curated wine menu available to enjoy on your deck or in the Palapa

  • Our spa menu includes massages and scrubs, delivered right to your deck

Whether you're here to explore or do absolutely nothing, The Bohemian gives you space to do both.
